This post will demonstrate the behavior of HEC-ResSim with multiple specified release rules in the rule set.
For this example, a simple model with one reservoir was developed. The model is shown below.
For this example, a simple model with one reservoir was developed. The model is shown below.
In this example, there is a constant 1,000 cfs of inflow entering the reservoir. In the first example, a specified release of 500 cfs is set at a higher priority than a specified release of 550 cfs and a maximum release of 400 cfs. The rule set is shown in the figure below.
In this simulation, the specified release of 500 cfs determines the release since it is the highest priority rule. The specification of 500 cfs allows ResSim to exceed the maximum release of 400 cfs. The results of this simulation are shown below. The release is shown by the green line in the bottom plot. The release is set to 500 cfs until the top of the flood pool is reached.
For the next simulation, the priority of the specified release rules is changed. This rule set is shown in the figure below.
The results of this simulation are shown below. ResSim now uses the specified release rule of 550 cfs to set the release until the pool reaches the top of the flood pool.
