Microsoft Excel Basic #1 - Computing average, maximum, and minimum of a single column of numbers

In this example, we look at how to compute the average, maximum, and minimum of a single column of numbers.  The application that we are using is the results of a test for five students.  We want to find the average, minimum, and maximum grades for the class.

Below are the results of the first test:



We can see that the grades are in cells B2 through B6.

To compute the average, minimum, and maximum, we write formulas in cells B8 through B10, respectively.  These formulas can be written in any cell that you choose.  The formulas that are written are shown below:
